In the Middle of Nowhere

This show was written by a local playwright and takes place just up the road from where I grew up, so it was very dear to my heart. The dilapidation and abstraction of architecture is one of my favorite ways to capture the visceral nature of this play. This is one of the first shows that I created in this style, and it has influenced my work since. Peeling back the layers of an old trailer home reveals the ugly guts of the architecture just as the characters of the play reveal ugly parts of their histories.

Did You Know? Allowing steel wool to sit in vinegar creates an oxidizing solution that ages wood and many other materials to give them an aged look. I have used this process a handful of times, and it creates a very convincing water damage effect. I created Fake Incalation using polyfill from cheap pillows and spraypainting it pink. We used a real pottery kiln and put an LED light in it to create a realistic firing kiln.
