Hadestown Teen

This production was incredible, and I am so glad to have been a part of it. I had a lot of time and a large budget, so I was able to see what I could produce with more resources. I was inspired by Mucha, and so we followed an Art Nouveau aesthetic for this show. Using a faux copper patina, I gave the set a worn, lived-in look. Using my laser cutter, I was able to produce sconces and brackets for this set right from my AutoCAD drafts. I made a large rotating carousel for the center of the stage. Committing to an Art Nouveau style allowed for this show to have a consistent visual language. Creating a visual language like this allows the audience to be fully immersed in the storytelling and world that we create. I used the seed of life as a visual theme to represent the pomegranate seeds that Persephone ate. This theme appears on the sconces, the brackets, Persephone's earrings, and the coins that were used as the train tickets to hell. We traced an Art Nouveau scroll on the side of the eleven-foot carousel so that as it turned, the scroll moved. Painting the copper-patinated walls was a very enjoyable process for me.
